The Diamond Cutter Buddhist Study Centre is part of the Asian Classics Institute. The centre is dedicated to the study and personal practice of the original teachings of the Buddha. The centre offers General Courses, the Study Program, Children's Dharma, Meditation Retreats, ceremonies as well as our University which is dedicated to deeper study of both Sutra and Tantra. All teachings are based on monastic and original scriptural sources of the highest accuracy, integrity and relevance to everyday life.

The Diamond Cutter Buddhist Study Centre has four study terms of eleven weeks each yearly. Each term we aim to run general courses, Dharma talks, children’s Dharma group, a puja, a fun-raising event and the on-going classes for the study program. The Centre is located in a wholistic living Centre called The Red Lotus where Dharma, Yoga and Healing activities can all be experienced in the one location.

It is rare to encounter the wisdom of the ancient authentic Buddhist teachings. To have the opportunity to study a comprehensive Tibetan Buddhist course compiled by a very qualified teacher is even rarer. So if you have ever yearned for the opportunity to truly understand Buddhist philosophy and practice or wanted to get to the heart of Buddhism then the Diamond Cutter Centre is here to help.

The Diamond Cutter Buddhist Study Centre was formed in 1998 by two students Giselle Ansselin and Ian Davies at the request of their teacher Geshe Michael Roach. In their Teachers footsteps they carried out the tradition of the study of the five great texts studied by the three great monasteries of the Gelukpa lineage. It is the dream of Geshe Michael Roach to begin the western lineage of Gelukpa teachers and to bring the Dharma to the west by westerners.

The Diamond Cutter Buddhist Study Centre teaches the Dharma in the Gelugpa tradition of Je Tsongkapa and the Dalai Lamas. The spiritual directors at the centre are Giselle Ansselin and Ben Christian.  They received the teachings from their Lama Geshe Lobsang Chunzin (Geshe Michael Roach) who in turn received the teachings from his root Lama Khen Rinpoche Geshe Lobsang Tharchin.

Khen Rinpoche Geshe Lobsang Tharchin

Fifty years ago, Sermey Khensur Geshe Lobsang Tharchin (known to his students as Khen Rinpoche) was granted the title of Hlarampa Geshe - a title of highest scholastic honors - by His Holiness the Fourteenth Dalai Lama at the Potala Palace in Lhasa, the capital of Tibet. In 1959, he escaped with other lamas from the communist invasion, and helped to recreate the secondary education system for the Tibetan government in exile in India. At the request of His Holiness, Khen Rinpoche came to the United States in 1972 and from that time until he passed on in December of 2004, he constantly gave very extensive authentic Tibetan Buddhist teachings to everyone who was interested in coming. He has published approximately 10 books through MSTC Press. He was one of the greatest Tibetan Buddhist masters of our time.

Khen Rinpoche studied under both Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche (1901-1981), one of the two life tutors of His Holiness the Fourteenth Dalai Lama, and Pabongka Rinpoche (1878-1941), probably the greatest teacher of Buddhism in Tibet in the 20th century, and author of the famed Liberation in the Palm of Your Hand.

Geshe Michael Roach

Geshe Michael Roach is the founder and spiritual director of Diamond Mountain. He was born in Los Angeles in 1952 and was raised in Phoenix, AZ. As a student at Princeton University he concentrated his studies in religion and ancient Sanskrit and Russian language. He met his teacher Khen Rinpoche Geshe Lobsang Tharchin in 1972 in the U.S. and studied very closely with him after that time. He was ordained as a Buddhist monk in 1983 and is entirely fluent in the spoken and written Tibetan language. After approximately 20 years of daily intensive study with Khen Rinpoche in New Jersey and at Sera Mey monastery in Southern India, Geshe Michael received the Geshe degree in 1995 (akin to a Doctorate of Divinity). He has also studied extensively at Sera Mey with Geshe Thubten Rinchen, one of the great living scripture teachers.

Giselle Ansselin and Ben Christian.

Giselle Ansselin and Ben Christian have been teaching the ACI Formal Buddhist Study Program in Australia for over 5 years. Giselle and Ben wanted an opportunity to facilitate the precious teachings of the Buddha. They believe that the quality of these teachings are exceptionally high and offer a unique opportunity for others to understand the heart and essence of Buddhism so as to practice it with the greatest of wisdom.
